Activating Chief Mountain W0/FR-030

To get there, Take I-70 west from Denver and use exit 252 for CO-74 S/Evergreen Pkwy for 3.4 miles. Take a right turn onto Co Rd 66/Ellingwood Trail/Squaw Pass Rd. Follow Squaw Pass Rd for 12 miles to the unsigned access road to Squaw Mountain. You might consider also nearby Squaw Mountain W0/PR-082, for a double activation. The trailhead for this peak is about a mile west from the Squaw Mountain access road. There is a wide shoulder on the right for parking and a trail sign for Chief and you might also see a short concrete pillar with \"290\" on it marking the start of the trail. It\'s about a mile and 700 feet of elevation to the summit - an open rocky knob with some really attractive boulder piles. I found a comfortable spot on the north side to operate, away from the other hikers that were enjoying the view from the very top.
